Powermetaltank Sabaton brengt volgende maand zijn nieuwste plaat, Legends, uit en heeft daar al een hoop muziek uit laten horen. En geen plaat zonder tour, en ook daar valt heel wat over te vertellen. We vatten het allemaal voor jullie samen.
Legends – het album
Legends is het elfde studioalbum van de band en het eerste op het nieuwe label Better Noise Music. Volgens zanger Joakim Brodén was de plaat al opgenomen voordat de groep van label veranderde (bron):
“The new album is already ready. If I remember correctly, it was ready even before we signed—with Better Noise Music—and of course, it has a whole concept behind it. We’ve had it in the works for some time.”
The Great War (2019) en The War to End All Wars (2022) verhaalden allebei over de Eerste Wereldoorlog, nu gaat het opnieuw over één concept doorheen de tijd. De teksten op Legends gaan over oorlogsgerelateerde figuren die een legendarische status verworven hebben. Sommigen onder hen zijn heel bekend in deze contreien, anderen hebben elders in de wereld een indruk nagelaten. Dit albumconcept ligt zo in de lijn van Heroes (2014) en The Last Stand (2016).

Legends – de singles
Er zijn al vijf van de elf nummers verschenen als single. Crossing the Rubicon is uitgebracht in een speciaal jasje: het is een collaboratie met rockband Nothing More, die net als Sabaton bij Better Noise Music zit. De albumversie is puur Sabaton, net als de andere vier singles. Van Templars en Hordes of the Khan zijn er ook echte clips, die vind je onderaan.

Legends – de tour
In november 2024 kondigde Sabaton al The Legendary Tour aan, nog voor er iets van het album geweten was. Het enige dat we wisten, waren de data en dat The Legendary Orchestra mee zou komen. Nu onthult bassist Pär Sundström in een interview wat dat is:
It is not Sabaton and the orchestra. There will be a complete Sabaton concert, but before that there is a whole show from The Legendary Orchestra. You can think of it as a Sabaton cover band that plays songs of ours, but in orchestral arrangements with lead instrumentalists, lead singers, and choirs. It’s very powerful, very soulful, and, of course, sounds completely different — no electric guitars, no drums, no percussion.
The Legendary Orchestra is een orkest dat niet samen met Sabaton speelt, maar wel Sabatonnummers in orkestrale versie.
Daarnaast spreekt Pär ook over het podium:
We have bigger things planned for the upcoming tour. And it is something very special, that’s why we have to build it around the Legends album. But I don’t want to give too much away. I think it will be very exciting to see it. And we are also building a show that is a little more than just a rock show. So we have two stages and something that connects them. On the previous ‘The Tour To End All Tours’ we did a few theatrical things, that was a bit more theater than we had done before. Many fans liked that. And that further strengthened the themes of the show. So we thought: Okay, let’s continue down that path.
